Now money is only as a medium of exchange, but different people may have different view on money.
All of us may have heard of the proverb “Money makes the mare go”. The proverb stresses the importance of money——as long as we have money, we can do whatever we want to do. Otherwise, it will be difficult for us to achieve our goals. Since the invention of money especially paper money, many people have struggled for the possession of this mysterious thing by all possible means, they even sacrifice their lives for the sake of holding more money. It is true that money is very important in the modern society. Money is essential to solve the basic needs of human beings. For example, we need money to buy food, clothes and houses, etc. Being living in a commodity society, people think that money is an indispensable means for them to exchange labors. Meanwhile, money is also one of important critera for assessing a man’s personal value and social position. To some degree, we can say money decides the fate of us. In poor and mountainous areas of our country, many children have no chance to go to school because their families could not afford their tuitions. And thus, the children may be dropped out school, which leads them to being eliminated in the competition society. It is impossible for them to improve their hometown. It may be a vicious circle. For our developing country also have this phenomenon such as “brain drain”. There is an old saying “man endeavors to rise as the river flows downward”. After all, working conditions and facilities for scientific research in China still leave much to be desired. In fact, many who choose to go abroad are pursuing better working conditions which will benefit their personal development in their fields of study. Nonetheless, the fact can not be denied that some talented people are heading abroad for higher pay and more comfortable life. For whatever reasons, the brain drain is an enormous loss to our country. It is really a pity to see intelligent people who have been trained at home dedicating themselves to other countries when they are needed most by their motherland. If our country has enough money and the government can provide them with better working conditions, generous pay ,I am sure the talented people may remain in our native country and contribute themselves to our developing country.
Does it mean that money is everything? Though money has so much importance, to some degree I do not agree that money is everything in our lives. It is true that you can do a lot of things with money , it does not follow that you can buy everything with money. Money can not buy good health. Some people have a large sum of money, but they have poor health. They can use money to send for good doctors and to buy good medicine, but they can not obtain good health with money. Money can not buy true friendship and love. Money may accelerate the process of friendship and love, but it can not determine them. Because true love and friendship is based on mutual attraction and common interests. Money can not buy knowledge. Acquiring knowledge is not through money but through learning. Money also can’t buy happiness. There are many cases that rich families are not happy at all in the modern world.
Although attitudes towards money may differ from person to person. I think earning more money is better. No one can deny the fact that money is important to us all. Everyday we use money to buy our daily necessities. In certain cases earning more money means freedom, which is just the means to make our life easier and better in some degree. But we should use our wisdom to make more money to enrich our life. Money is so useful that everybody seeks to possess it. Due to the lust for money, some people don’t care by what means they get it. In order to obtain more money, some people throw the morality away, even dare to offend the law , and as a result they are punished by law or criticized by the whole society. So money can be a curse if we do not know how to handle it properly. Most of us know that money can bring us happiness and sadness as well.
In conclusion, I agree with many people in that money is very important to all of us, but they had better not consider it as the most important thing in life. Excessive concern with money is not advisable. I don’t believe “money is the root of all evil”, nor do I agree with “ money talks”. Money is important but it is not everything. We should earn more money by legal means, and make a fortune by hard work. This concept on money can lead us to a happy life.
