EVERYONE has to spend sometime waiting.You may wait 20 minutes for a bus or a couple of days for the results of your final exams.But how would you feel waiting for 1,087 days to know you* **te (命运)?
Ask Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao (萧亚轩).The 27-year-old has spent that exact number of days waiting to come back to the Mandopop scene (华语歌坛).On December 22,her new mandarin (普通话) record "1087" will hit stores across Asia.Elva will present her trademark (标志性的) fast dance beats (快节奏舞曲) for he* **ns.This CD should have come out in 2005.1 To prepare for it,Elva went to the US to learn fresh dance moves.However,record company Warner Music faced some serious issues during that time,including financial (财政) problems and staff (人员) changes.Eventually,the company decided to stop her album.
"I was suddenly at a loss," she said."I had no other choice but to wait.It was like waiting for the dawn at night,though I didn't know when the first beam of sunshine would come.The next album was my hope which willed me to move forward to break the long,dark hopelessness of night," said Elva.
After having gotten used to a packed schedule (日程),plenty of free time made her feel uneasy (不安).She went to New York to learn dancing and took courses to improve her singing skills."Opportunity only favours the prepared mind 2," she said."When someday the company would tell me I could continue my album,I would proudly say:I am ready."
She led a casual life in New York.Nobody knew she was a singer and she could arrange her schedule as she saw fit (合适的)."I pretended to be carefree,but I couldn't convince myself that I did not care about my music career."
She cried at night thinking of her gloomy (阴暗的) future.When her mother saw her upset,she persuaded Elva to give up singing and take up fashion design,which she had majored in at university.Elva admitted to being conflicted,but said she still loved the feeling of singing so much.So she soldiered on."It's a pity that these two years were fruitless (无结果).But it's an experience worth remembering.Once the night has passed,I have nothing to fear in the future," she said.
