As is known to all,English is very important.We should put emphasis on English.I believe that most of us have great passion for English,and we can learn English well.The 2010 Shanghai EXPO is drawing near.Therefore,a proficiency in English is necessary.Shanghai will call for a lot of volunteers.Being a volunteer is extremely glorious.We can help foreign tourists acquaint themselves with the city,and show them the beauty of the city.A good command of English contributes to becoming an excellent volunteer.
In recent years,many foreign capital companies have been springing up like mushrooms.Maybe some of us are capable of entering such a good company.If our spoken English is poor,we’re unable to communicate with our boss.It is certain that we will commit mistakes in our work.We are likely to be laid off by the company.
In addition to these factors,mastering English can promote the communication between Chinese and foreign cultures.The statistical figure clearly shows that more than 30 million people throughout the world are learning Chinese,but the Chinese teachers overseas are not enough.If we feel like going abroad,being a Chinese teacher is a good choice.We enable foreign students to know more about Chinese culture,and we can carry forward Chinese culture.A large number of foreigners are prejudiced against China.In their minds,China is a poor and feudal country.Because they are misled by the media and they have never been to China,China makes such a bad impression on them.As long as Chinese teachers make every effort to show them a real China,they will come to love China.
Since English is significant,we ought to spend considerable time and effort in learning it.
Firstly,we should take advantage of every opportunity to practise our spoken English.Communicating with foreigners is a good way.We must get accustomed to their accents.People from different countries have different accents.If we understand what the foreigners say,we can speak English fluently.We had better speak English in front of the mirror.By doing this,we are able to fortify ourselves against fear.We have the ability to talk with foreigners provided we are capable of talking to ourselves.
Secondly,we should watch English TV programmes.CCTV—9 provides lots of English TV programmes.We often watch sports programmes,entertainment programmes at weekends,and we need to spare some time to watch CCTV—9.If you are interested in news,you can choose World Wide Watch.If you are fond of songs and dances,you can choose centre stage.If you are keen on science,you can choose Nature and Science.Everyone can find a suitable programme from this channel.It is in order to improve our English levels that we choose to watch CCTV—9.Maybe we can only spare half an hour or less time.But it doesn’t matter.Besides,I know that some of us read English newspapers once in a while.They read Shanghai Daily or China Daily.As far as our abilities are concerned,to completely understand the whole meaning of Shanghai Daily or China Daily is rather too difficult.In my oppion,Shanghai Students’ Post is a better choice.
Finally,we have to utilize every minute.When we are in a bus,we can recite English words.
