The first United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) has reached agreement on 16 environmental protection principles, whereas preserving the quality of air has been identified as a priority issue. Various governments should be encouraged to develop standards and policies governing the industrial and related sectors, with respect to reducing the emission of air pollutants, air pollution control and all other aspects which will bring about negative impacts to the health, economic and sustainable development. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has indicated that it would provide capacity building assistance to various governments in keeping air pollution under control.
