The author met a stranger who said his money had been stolen. He hoped the author can help him. And the author gave him some money. But some author’s friends considered he is a fool also laughed at him.
As far as I’m concerned, what the author did does reasonable. It is universally acknowledged that help other people whom in trouble is a good behavior. But we really do this? I don’t think so. People often refuse help the others, resulting from the fact that they don’t believe the others whom said them were in trouble. There is no denying that we should doubt a stranger’s words. After all, isn’t everyone is virtuous. We, however, sometimes also were in trouble. And we only could ask a stranger for help. Maybe we all hoped the person whom we met would help us. So, if you are that stranger, you should consider whether you help them. Take me for example; I once met a couple with a baby on my way home. They said that their baby hadn’t eaten yet. They only hoped I can give some food to their baby, but don’t care themselves, which made me feel them didn’t talk a lie. So I bought some food to them and give some money for them. Even if they’re cheat, I don’t want the baby be hungry. “Do well and have well”, as the saying goes. I would rather hold the belief that most people are virtuous. Believe or doubt, what you will choose? From where I stand, I select to believe.
