Last week,Mrs Black went to London.She didn’t know London very well,and she lost her way.Suddenly she saw a man near a bus stop.She went up to the man and said,“Excuse me!Can you tell me the way to the hospital,please?” The man smiled.He didn’t know English!He came from Germany.But then he put his hand into his pocket,and took out an English dictionary.He looked up some words.Then he said slowly,“I’m sorry I can’t understand you.”

“Daddy, may I ask you a question?” 爸爸，我能问你一个问题吗？
“Yeah sure, what is it?” replied the man. 当然，什么问题？ 爸爸回答。
“Daddy, how much do you make an hour?” 爸爸，你一个小时挣多少钱？
“That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?” the man said angrily.
这和你无关。你为什么问这种问题？ 爸爸很生气。
“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?” pleaded the little boy.
我只是想知道。请告诉我吧，你一个小时挣多少钱？ 小男孩恳求。
“If you must know, I make $20 an hour.”

“Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I please borrow $10?”

The father was angry, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10 and he really didn’t ask for money very often.
小男孩安静地回房并关上门。爸爸坐下来并且开始想：可能他真的要用那十块买一些需要的东西而且他平时不怎么开口要钱。
The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.
爸爸开了小男孩的房门，
“Are you asleep, son?” He asked. 你睡了吗，孩子？他问。
“No daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy. 还没，爸爸，我醒着呢。 孩子回答。
“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man, “ Here’s the $10 you asked for.”
我想，可能我刚才对你太凶了，这是你想要的十块。
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy!” He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father.
男孩坐下，笑着，哦，谢谢你，爸爸！他喊道。然后从枕头下拿出一些皱巴巴的纸币。

“Why do you want more money if you already have some?”

An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it.
Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat. The cat said, "Do not hit your old servant. I have worked for you for many years, and I would work for you still, but I am too old. Do not be unkind to the old, but remember what good work the old did when they were young."

老猫
一位老妇有只猫，这只猫很老，它跑不快了，也咬不了东西，因为它年纪太大了。一天，老猫发现一只老鼠，它跳过去抓这只老鼠，然而，它咬不住这只老鼠。因此，老鼠从它的嘴边溜掉了，因为老猫咬不了它。
于是，老妇很生气，因为老猫没有把老鼠咬死。她开始打这只猫，猫说：“不要打你的老仆人，我已经为你服务了很多年，而且还愿意为你效劳，但是，我实在太老了，对年纪大的不要这么无情，要记住老年人在年青时所做过的有益的事情。”
