There may not be a Glastonbury Festival in 2006,but instead there is a NOT the Glastonbury Festival T-shirt,and it will raise money for local charities working to reduce crime in the Somerset town,an initiative supported by Mendip District Council.
Michael Eavis tried on the first T-shirt to come off the press this week and is delighted to support Glastonbury Community Watch in the year when he takes a break from organising the Festival.
Profits from sales will help to fund crime-beating initiatives and grants to local groups in the town.
The T-shirt is also being sent to a number of top celebrities by members of the Community Watch Group.Ros Wilkins,area regeneration officer from Mendip District Council is a member of the group.
She said:“We hope to get a number of the T-shirts signed by big named stars who have performed at recent Glastonbury Festivals.Michael has signed one and so has jazz star Jamie Cullum.We will sell them on eBay later in the year to boost money raised even further.
“We are delighted that Michael has given us his whole-hearted backing.The wording on the T-shirts promotes other events in the town during 2006,including the Musical Extravaganza,Carnival,Tor Dance Festival,and the Children’s Festival.It is still going to be a busy year for the town with lots going on.”
The production and distribution is being managed by Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce on behalf of Community Watch.Edward Bowron,Manager of the Chamber of Commerce,added:
“We are very pleased to be part of this project which will help promote Glastonbury and its businesses.We have been working with Alister Sieghart,who does much of the promotional literature for Glastonbury Festival,who helped by perfecting the initial design,introducing colour and graphics; and we are using a UK produced,Oxfam approved T-shirt which is being printed by Arien Screenprint,part of the Excel Arien Ltd Group who are based in Cheddar.”
Another supporter is county councillor Alan Gloak,one of the original brains behind the design.He has also donated money from his county council community fund to help launch the T-shirt.

The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China.It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar. It's China's New Year's Day.So usually a month before the festival ,people begin to buy food, clothes and decorations for houses.
About a week before the festivial, housewives are busy preparing the new year dinner. And they will do a lot of washing and cleaning in the house. People who are far away on business are hurrying to return home for the new year's family reunion .
On New Year Eve, each family will gather togrther eating, talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. And there will be some interesting programmes on TV.The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from their parents or grand-parents .
On Lunar New year's Day, after getting up, people will eat dumplings, When they meet their neighbours or friends, they'll say ;"Happy New Year."The New Year celebrating activities will last about half a month.
