不少孩子以为是圣诞老公公诞生的日子.其实圣诞节是来自基督教习俗,是庆祝荣耀尊贵的上帝为了爱世人,便将他的独生子耶稣基督道成肉身来到世间,成为人的样式,与人一同承担苦难、救赎世人.圣诞节就是庆祝圣子耶稣基督的诞生.而在西方庆祝圣诞节不是只有圣诞节夜以及圣诞节当天,早在圣诞节前的四个星期日,便已经开始每周日庆祝耶稣诞生的习俗,这一段时间称为“将临期”.Christmas Day-December 25-which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ,the founder of the Christian religion,is the biggest and best-loved holiday in the United States.
在将临节期,教会的布置全都以蓝紫色为主.圣坛的桌巾、讲台的台帷、牧师袍的肩带都是紫色.并且圣坛中央通常会放置一个用长青树的叶子作的花环,中间有五枝紫色的长烛,每个星期日,便多点上一枝蜡烛.到最后的圣诞夜里的“普世同庆”点上中间的最后一枝蜡烛.烛光象征着在许多年前的圣婴孩耶稣其第一声啼哭里,为这世上带来了光明.
