砂带磨削与砂轮磨削同样都是高速运动的“微刃切削刀具”———磨粒的微量切削而形成的累积效应,因而其磨削机理大致上也是相同的.但由于砂带本身的构成特点和使用方式不同,使砂带磨削不论是在磨削加工机理方面,还是其综合磨削性能方面都有别于砂轮磨削,这主要表现在:
(1) 砂带磨削除了具有砂轮同样的滑擦、耕犁和切削作用外,还有磨粒对工件表面的挤压作用,并使之产生塑性变形、冷硬层变化和表层撕裂,以及由于摩擦使接触点温度升高,而引起的热塑性流动等综合作用.所以,从这点来看,砂带磨削同时具有磨削、研磨和抛光的多重作用.而这也正是砂带磨削表面质量好的原因.另一方面,由于砂带的这种弹性磨削特点,还使砂带在磨削区域内与工件接触的长度比砂轮大,同时参加磨削的磨粒数目多,单颗磨粒所受载荷小,且均匀,磨粒破损小.
(2) 经过精选的针状砂粒采用先进的“静电植砂法”,使砂粒均匀直立于基底、且锋口向上、定向整齐排列,等高性好,容屑间隙大,接触面小,具有较好的切削性能.应用这一多刀多刃的切削工具进行磨削加工,生产效率高.
(3) 砂带磨削时接触面小,摩擦发热少,可以有效地减少工件变形及烧伤,加工精度高,砂带在磨削时是柔性接触,具有较好地磨削、研磨和抛光等多重作用,再加上磨削系统振动小,磨削速度稳定使得表面加工质量粗糙度值小,残余应力状态好,工件的粗糙度可达Ra0.4-0.1μm,且表面有均匀的粗糙度,加工表面质量高.
(4) 砂带磨削可以用于平面、外圆、内圆磨削、复杂的异形面加工.除了有各种通用、专用设备外,设计一个砂带磨头能方便地装于车床和铣床等常规现成设备上,不仅能使这些机床功能大为扩展,而且能解决一些难加工零件如超长、超大型轴类、平面零件、不规则表面等的精密加工,砂带磨削工艺灵活性大,适应性强.
( 5) 适用范围广:砂带磨削几乎可以加工所有的工程材料,如有色金属、非金属材料、难加工材料等,均有良好的磨削加工性能[ 10~12] .
( 6) 生产成本低、经济效益好:砂带磨床结构简单,制造成本比砂轮磨床的低; 新砂带调整容易,可以一次定位,多次更换砂带; 有实验证明,砂带磨削的磨削比( 切除工件材料重量与磨粒消耗重量之比) 可达300:400:1,而砂轮磨削仅为30:1.
