而二者区别是,介词通常后接名词性的词来构成介词短语,连词通常接句子.即是问,到底是归于介词还是连词?若为连词,那么完全可以说 But for you had not helped us ,we should not have finished in time.
PS 个人认为介词组合可以说是连词连接的句子中的省略表达,就是表达出了连词所连接的句子中的主要意思的词,省略后的不宣自明

我来说吧.after与before既可以作介词也可以作连词.例子：While respcted,he was not invented.此句中的WHILE 省略了He was,因为主句与从句主语一样,故可以省略（若不同则不可以省略）.注意,仍为两个句子,就是说While是连词.至于But for 明显后面应该加名词,为介词短语.你明白吗?
