A Touching Event
Yesterday afternoon I went to the Yuexiu Park.It happened that I saw a touching event. At that time, some people were boating on the lake.Among them was perhaps a happy family. They were taking photos when suddenly the girl fell off the boat into the water. She was struggling and her parents cried out,"Help!Help !" It was obvious that they could not swim at all. From nearby a young man immediately rushed to the lake.Without taking off his clothes,he jumped into the water and quickly swam towards the girl l who was already tired out.At last he carried her to the lake side. She was saved!
How happy the parents were! Before they thought of thanking the Young man,he had disappeared!

Generation Gap
Nowadays, there is often a lack of understanding between parents and children. Children always complain that their parents are out of date, while parents can’t approve of what their children say and do. Thus, a big generation gap is formed.
The gap remains wide for many reasons. Children want to be free to choose their own friends, select their own classes in school, plan their own future, earn and spend their own money, and generally run their own life in a more independent way than many parents allow. Also, young children wish to be understood by their parents, but most parents don’t quite understand their children. They regard it as their responsibility to teach their offspring traditional beliefs. They want them to be obedient and do well in school. Therefore, misunderstanding often arise from parents’ tendency to interfere in children’s daily activities.
In my opinion, most problems between parents and children could be solved by joint efforts of both sides to enhance mutual understanding.
Generation gap is a concept which means a lack of understanding and communication between parents and children. Children always complain that their parents do not understand them while parents worry about their children's behaviours and ideas.
Why does there exist a generation gap between the children and the parents? Firstly, people who live in different time have different viewpoints towards social customs and tradition. For example, parents who were born in 1950's are very surprised at the fashion in 1990's. Secondly, the parents and children seldom sit down together to talk or communicate with each other equally. If they do so, the gap will be narrowed, If not, it will widen. In most cases, the parents often blame the children's behaviour or style of clothes instead of caring about their thoughts. Thirdly, the children want to be more independent, but the parents still want to take children under their wings.
To ease the problem and bridge the generation gap, parents should treat their children as friends and try to understand the feelings and thoughts of the young. Meanwhile, children should respect their parents and think of the problems from their parents'viewpoint. Furthermore, the parents should keep study and catch up with the development of the fashion. In this way, they will understand their children's behaviour. Work together, the problem will be solved.
The World Expo in 2010
Shanghai will host the 2010 World Expo. The World Expo has a long history but it has never been held in Asia. So the 2010 World Expo is an honor for all of the Asians. Our government has promised that it will be the best one. And Shanghai, as a host city, will have more chances to develop quickly. Dear Father & Mother,
I want to talk about one thing on the relationships between you two and me.
I am now a mature grown-up. I have my own interest and I can make decisions on my own and responsible for the consequences of the choices. You didn't need to worry about me anymore. When I said so, it didn't mean I didn't love you anymore. I know you always think everything on my shoes. I really very grateful for that and all the things you had done for me. I still need your advices and support. I still love you.
Yours Son/Daughter,
John/Jane

Whether English listening should be tested in the college entrance examination has been a heated debate recently.
The opponents of this view hold the view that listening is one of the four basic skills that are required when learning a language. The importance of listening, as well as the other three skills, cannot be neglected. Secondly, listening is an important way to acquire new information. Thirdly, the opportunities for international cooperation are increasing everyday. Thus, it is crucial for us to practise our listening and speaking skills.
However, the advocates of this issue claim that since the quality of the tapes used in the listening test are different, it will be unfair for those who listen to a bad quality tape during the test. Also, there is a huge difference in English teachers’ skills and the quality of stereo facilities between urban and rural areas. Finally, it is not necessary for everyone to communicate orally with foreigners in the future.

The most touching experience I have had
Looking retrospectively, whenever I read from newspapers or magzines of people living in poverty-stricken areas and their perseverance as well as the spirit of never giving up, I couldn't help recalling my touching experience with a young man a year ago.
That was a snowy, gloomy Sunday afternoon, after having a comfortable weekend at our cozy house, I kept on complaining the awful weather, while wearing warm sweaters and gloves. I bet I was looking like a clumzy bear at that moment. Finally, after about an hour's bus riding, I got off with frozen fingers and grave mood. "How nice it would be if I could have a grilled sweet potato "! Thinking of this, I looked around, and delightfully found that there was one who was selling sweet potatos by the rode side. Came to the front at once, I asked:"how much is this one?" "2 yuan", he answered after a second with a big smile, at the same time, putting away his book--a self-study book! The book immediately broght my memory to the children living in poverty-stricken areas without access to knowledge and modernity. Shocked by the book he was holding in his hand,I even forget to pay the money for it. Yeah, I admit at that moment I forgot the cruel code of winter.
Before, I was a pessimist of life, compaining that I didn't have the good luck to be born in a rich family with outstanding background as always depicted in the movies and novels. But now, it comes out clearly to me that I was in a well-off family leading a happy life, receiving higher education with professional teachers. Compared to the young people who is earning a living in the cruel weather by his own labor, I was speechless and a sense of regret came over my mind.
Now I am taking every chance to enjoy the betterment of life. The image of that young man is still lingering in my mind, which acts as a timeless reminder for me to always treasure what I already have and live life to the fullest.
To my dear father and mother
Dear Mum, Dad:
Haven't written to you for a long time, I miss you very much. How is everything going at home? Please don't worry, I'm very well at school.
Here I would be prodly tell you that I won the 3000 meter long run in our school's sports meeting last week. You see, there were about 80 contestants from 20 classes, and after three time's firce competing, I finally stick to the end and got the second prize. Our teachers and classmates are all congratulating me with warm applause when I was holding the trophy standing on the arena confidently. Mum, Dad,were you had the chance to witness that scene, you would be somehow satisfied about me--the naghuty boy who never go to attend extra classes during weekends and holidays, who spends most of the time in sport events, and whose studying scors are just so-so among classmates. Yeah, dear Mum and Dad, I understand why you are sparing no efforts to send me to our city's best school at the expense of large amounts of money, I know how much you are anticipating of me, I know I am the hope and the sun of your life. But, I am very sorry to say that maybe I don't have the talent in learning the boring ABCs and numbers, triangles, chemisty and physics.
I remember that day when I told you cautiously that I would apply for a college majoring in sports, you suddenly flew into a rage, shouted out:" what? majoring in sports? can you? I see no talent of you in that aspect! How can you repay the money I have spent on you? In my eyes, you must exagert every strength to study the compulsory subjects, then go to a prestigious university, then find a steady and high salary job, that is the blueprint for your future! Throw away sports! Never mention it in front of me again!"
Scared and depressed, but I could find no way to make my voice be heard.
Yes, dear Mum and Dad, compulsory subjects are important, prestigious university is important, steady and high salary job is important, but the point is, nowadays, how can one get all these in the end, not to mention the unbearable pressures the so-called white collars are suffering. I know, there are hardships and difficulties in every way we choose, why can't I choose the one to my heart? And only then can I devote my passion and perseverance to it, and maybe in the end, get the result I have been longing for.
Dear Mum and Dad, after reading this letter, I hope you could understand me--your son, who is living at sea for the time being but still pursuing his own dreams through every effort!
Sincere wishes
Yours Mike
