The careful use of language in international commercial contracts has strict requirements to the translation of these contracts. The thesis at first explains the importance of pragmatics, and highlights the contract text. Language analysis in the thesis is based on three theories of pragmatics: deixis and reference, verbal behavior and relevance theory. Research of the thesis is made in three aspects: language characteristics of contract, different types of verbal behavior in contract and how they implement their functions. With this research, the thesis summarizes the special language characteristics and rules of contract text, and proves that these characteristics and rules serve for the communication purpose and specific social context of contract, according to the analysis of their pragmatic use. Based on the pragmatic analysis, difference between English and Chinese, as well as some examples, the thesis introduces the common solutions and skills in translating English commercial contract. Moreover, the thesis also introduces the accuracy, preciseness, normativity, translating skill and development in content in English commercial contract, and analyzes the common mistakes, their causes, solutions and problems in translation.
