agreement that paved the way for its membership, foreign
banks will be allowed to start offering retail banking
services to individuals in China five years after its
accession. With China’s savings rate expected to increase to
more than 50% by 2005, international private banks will be
keen to harness the potential of the Chinese wealth
management market sooner rather than later.
