题目是Some people think that universities should provide knowledge and skills related to the future career, but others think the true function of university is to give access to knowledge for its own sake. What is your opinion of the main function of university?
There is a growing tendency that a great number of universities and colleges focus on teaching fundamental theories and elementary courses. Unfortunately, students pay less attention to that, because they don’t believe what they have learned can change them the jobs. Thus some people recommend that schools should provide more pratical tranings instead. As for me, I think this suggestion is reasonable in some aspects.
Firstly, theories are not made up, they root in practice. As we know any academic knowledge is abtained from work experience and scientific experiments. Universities can make students understand theories better by providing practical training. That’s the reason why in many of universities there is a compulsory attachment to companis in the last semester of the your years.
Secondly, theoretical concepts is meaningless when lost contact with reality. It has to be combined with practice, so that it will live up to efficiency. For instance, HR in companies more and more appreciate people who have work experience, but not the ones who only hold a certificate. That is to say, the more practical opportunities universities offer to students, the larger possibility they can get a good job.
However, theoretical knowledge is indispensable matter that can not be ignored. It is precondition for students to practise. So academic information and practical skill play even important role in our study.
To conclude, the universities should put the same priorty on provding work practice by the time students are well equipped thoeretical knowledge. It is for the sake of students adapt the society better when they leave schools.
