××：多谢,多谢,在经历了我国有史以来最困难,也最激动人心的两个月之后,我们今晚在这里相聚.如此众多的生命在令人无法想像的恐怖行动中被葬送,我们亲眼目睹也承受住了这一震撼.我们承受住了如此众多的葬礼带来的哀伤.我们还遭遇了生物恐怖主义通过邮件进行的前所未有的攻击.
今晚,成千上万名儿童令人心碎地努力适应失去父亲或母亲的生活.我们其余的人都在努力适应一个似乎与9月10日的世界大不相同的世界.
第二架飞机撞上第二座大楼的那一刻,也就是我们知道这是一次恐怖主义袭击的那一刻,很多人已意识到了我们的生活再也不似从前.但我们当时尚未意识到的、也是恐怖分子永远也想不到的是,美国显得更加强大,重新焕发出更强烈的自豪感和爱国精神.
我在对国会两院联席会议发表的讲话中曾经说过,我们的国家是一个被危险所唤醒的国家.我们的国家也是一个被为国效劳的精神、公民义务和同情心所唤醒的国家.我们谁也不希望我们的国家遭遇如此的邪恶之举,然而我们认识到,面对邪恶也可催生极其美好的事物.
在过去两个月中,我们向全世界表明美国是一个伟大的国家.美国人以勇气和关爱作出了令人赞叹的回应.我们从孩子们的身上看到了这一点,他们寄来了100多万美元捐助阿富汗儿童.我们从美国犹太教和基督教教徒的同情心中看到了这一点,他们主动向他们的穆斯林邻居伸出援手.我们从美国人重新考虑生活的轻重缓急中看到了这一点：父母花更多的时间陪伴他们的子女,很多人用更多的时间祈祷和参加宗教礼拜.
