父亲在一家花岗石厂工作,负责装运.那一年,他在车间里出了事故,在吊装一块五吨左右的花岗石时,链条突然断裂,砸在料堆里,溅起的碎石像子弹一样击中了他的面部.他突然眼前一黑,什么也看不到了.送到医院后,他的一只眼睛比孩子当年伤得轻些,另一只眼睛倒无大碍.但他竟然拒绝治疗!他向厂方提出要求,他不看那只伤眼,能不能把医药费支付给他.厂方问他为什么这样做,他说想用这笔钱给儿子装一只假眼.厂方对这个提议当然不能接受,坚持让他去医院诊治那只伤眼.
他还是拒绝了.厂方为了避免后顾之忧,让他写了保证书,内容大意是如果眼睛瞎了,和厂方没任何关系,他真的写了.许多人都认为他疯了,他却不作任何解释.
二十年后,这位父亲已经开了一家绣花厂,人们都称他独眼厂长.他的儿子很英俊,丝毫看不出是残疾人.那一年,孩子和一位漂亮的姑娘结婚了,婚礼上,有人问新娘：“你在乎他只有一只眼睛吗?”新娘说：“虽然他只有一只眼睛,但他比正常人更大方.”而新郎笑着说：“因为我只有一只眼睛,所以像猎人一样瞄准了她.”众人被这对新人的言语逗笑.
在儿子的婚宴上,年老的父亲喝醉了.他指指自己的一只瞎眼,对亲朋好友说：“你们知道我的眼睛当年为什么不去治?”
老人说：“以前儿子常常问我,自己的眼睛为什么是白色的.我就把儿子拉到身边,指指自己的瞎眼,说,儿子,爸爸也是这样的,这叫遗传.”
众人听了,全都愣在那!
