However,he had at last been allowed to send a fax in which he informed the editor that he had been arrested while counting the 1,084 steps leading to the fifteen-foot wall which surrounded the president's palace.
（1）第一行的in which的使用我不理解.
（2）第二行while counting,难道while后面直接只能跟动名词?求while的一系列用法.

（1）in which 为定语从句 正常应该是he informed the editor in the fax 而a fax 在前面send 的后面作宾语 所以后面解释这个fax 就用了定语从句.fax叫先行词
（2）这是个省略句式 完整应该是while he was counting ...英语中若前面的主语和时间状语从句的主语一致 那么时间状语从句的主语可以省略
while 的用法
1.相当于 when 引导时间状语从句 当...的时候...
He was sleeping while I called him .(我给他打电话时他在睡觉.）
2.表示对比 He is strong while I am weak.（他很强壮而我很弱小）
while与when 的不同在于when 接瞬间动词while接延续性动词

(1)which代表前面的fax,后面说的是fax(传真)里写的内容
(2)while后面可以直接更动名词,也可以跟状语从句.
while后面好象是跟动名词的时候多哦,表示在XX的同时
