b:yes.mostly franchise stores.
a:yeah,what kind of franchise stores have you noticed?
b:oh there're so many,the most known are mcdonald's and KFCs,which i believe you can find everywhere in the city.other stores like TGIFridays,outback stakehouse,starbucks coffees,some of them are not really fast food stores but they are products of large international food chain corporations.
a:absolutely.why do you think american fast food had such market in china?and since you said they are mostly franchise stores,what do you think is the advantages of operating a franchise that made its survival among all the competitors in other forms?
b:for your first question,fast food is a new thing that was foreign to china.it's fast,doesn't take much of your time and you can have a place to sit down and rest.and the most important reason that distinguished fast food from other forms of food serving operations is it's advertising strategies.unlike old chinese food industries,american fast food invest large at advertisement,they study the psychology of consumer and target their products at certain customer with different strategies.for instance,mcdonalds has happy meal that's very appealing to children,KFC has family bucket that's obviously targeting at groups of large number.they are new practices to chinese people and are apparently successful.
for your other question,franchise stores does not require a huge investment but return with a decent payback.the interior decorations of these stores of a brandname are almost the same all around the world which gives consumers a feeling of familiarity.for instance,when traveling out side of the country,a lot of chinese people like to eat at mcdonalds when they're at the airport.because they've been to the mcdonalds in china and they know what to expect from them.when foreigners come to china they like to drink coffee at starbucks despise of it's high price because it's something they're familiar with.
